What we believe

Animals, like all living beings, are entitled to basic legal rights in our society. They are defenseless against exploitation and abuse by humans.

We therefore believe that animals should have these following basic rights ...............

THE right of animals to be free from exploitation, cruelty, neglect and abuse.

THE right of domestic animals to an environment that satisfies their basic physical and psychological needs.

THE right of companion animals to a healthy diet, protective shelter and adequate medical care.

THE right of wildlife to a natural habitat, ecologically sufficient to a normal existence and self-sustaining species of population.

THE right of animals to have their interests represented in court and safeguarded by the law of the land.

This dog will be poisoned...unless you take action!

This is one among the 100,000 dogs that were to be poisoned in Srinagar, (Kashmir) by the municipal authorities to combat the so called 'dog menace' in the state.

The SPCA , headed by Mr Javed Iqbal Shah , convinced the government not to carry on this inhuman and utterly primitive method of termination and has instead put forward a plan for the phased sterilization of dogs in the city.

The program was initiated with the help of Dr Rais and his team members Mukesh , Babu Lal , Rathode Mukesh and Kanti Lal , who came all the way from Jaipur to volunteer their services.
The main aim was to help set up and train local veterinarians to sterilize dogs under sedation and their post operative care.

However due to the total lack of infrastructure , funds and support from the local authorities it is becoming increasingly difficult for the SPCA to carry forward this scheme.
